Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has refused to engage further in the growing dispute with Cristiano Ronaldo, saying he has “nothing more to say” after reading the forward’s lengthy statement.
Jesus made the remarks on Wednesday while heading to the Portuguese Football Federation headquarters, where he said his attention remained on his duties with the national team.
“I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I’m going to the Federation to work, to think about the Portuguese national team. I have nothing more to say,” Jesus said.
Ronaldo had accused the coach of breaking his word over an agreement concerning his playing time during the recent international window. He also alleged that Jesus failed to honour a subsequent agreement on how the matter would be addressed publicly.
Despite the dispute, Ronaldo apologised to his teammates and supporters for leaving the national team camp and indicated that he remained available for future selection.
