Rivers Assembly Commences Impeachment Process Against Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

The move was announced during a plenary session on Thursday, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, according to a live broadcast monitored on Channels Television.

During the sitting, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, formally read the notice of allegations and claims of gross misconduct levelled against Governor Fubara. The notice, which was reportedly endorsed by 26 members of the House, alleged violations of provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaker Amaewhule disclosed that the notice of allegations would be served on the governor within the next seven days, in line with legislative procedures.

Similarly, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a separate notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Oduh, formally bringing her into the impeachment process.

Further steps in the impeachment procedure are expected to unfold in the coming days, subject to constitutional and legislative requirements.
