Police Implement Tinubu’s Order, Withdraw Officers Attached to VIPs
The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the immediate withdrawal of all personnel attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) in compliance with a directive issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordering the removal of police escorts from private individuals nationwide.
According to an internal circular dated November 24, 2025, and issued from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 16 in Lagos, officers deployed to VIPs and special beats across the country have been instructed to return to base without delay.
The directive, conveyed under Daily Order/Instruction No. AB:4087/DOPS/SPU/B16/LAS/VOL.3/147, emphasized strict compliance. “Sequel to the directive of Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the withdrawal of Police personnel attached to VIPs, the Commanding Officer directs with immediate effect the withdrawal of all personnel of SPU Base 16 attached to VIPs/Beats across the federation back to Base,” the circular stated.
Officers were warned to report back before the end of Monday, November 24, 2025, and were further instructed to attend a compulsory Lecture Parade scheduled for the next day, during which attendance would be taken from the nominal roll.
The notice was signed by ASP Neji Veronica, the Admin Officer, on behalf of the Commanding Officer of SPU Base 16, Lagos.
President Tinubu’s directive came after a surge of kidnappings by Bandits terrorizing communities , schools, churches and mosque.
The move aimed at redeploying police manpower to critical national security duties and curbing the long-standing culture of assigning officers to private individuals at the expense of general policing.
The nationwide enforcement is expected to continue across other SPU bases and commands in the coming days.
