The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, says electricity generation improved between March 28 and April 10, 2026, following increased gas supply to thermal plants.

His spokesman, Bolaji Tunji, said the gains fulfilled Adelabu’s pledge at the Power Sector Working Group that supply would improve within two weeks.

Data showed generation rose from about 3,951MW on March 28 to over 4,300MW by April 10, while gas supply increased from 605 million standard cubic feet per day to more than 704mmscfd.

Mechanical availability remained stable, peaking at 7,796MW, while operational availability climbed from 4,208MW to 4,694MW.

“Despite minor fluctuations, the overall trajectory points to a gradual recovery driven largely by improved gas supply,” Tunji said.

Adelabu has inaugurated a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee to improve coordination, ensure real-time monitoring, and sustain gas supply to generating companies.

He assured Nigerians that reforms and interventions would continue to yield measurable improvements.

“We are not there yet, but we will continue to ensure measurable improvements,” Tunji added.

The minister also urged the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) to boost internally generated revenue, establish more meter testing centres, and collaborate with the National Power Training Institute to address manpower shortages.

Adelabu emphasised the need to train more installers to bridge Nigeria’s meter gap, saying testing centres should be set up in every geopolitical zone to strengthen consumer protection and grid reliability.
