Police Declare Mushin Safe After Bomb Scare

The Lagos State Police Command has declared Mushin safe following a reported improvised explosive device scare that triggered a security response in the area on Monday.

The Command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, visited Mushin for an on-the-spot assessment after a distress call alleging an explosion was received in the early hours of the day.

According to a statement shared on the Command’s official X page on Monday, operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Unit were immediately deployed to the scene following the report.

The police said the area was cordoned off while a thorough search and recovery operation was conducted to determine the nature of the incident.

After the operation, authorities confirmed that no explosive device was found and the area was declared safe.

“Following a distress call alleging an explosion in the early hours of today, operatives of the EOD-CBRN Unit were immediately deployed to the scene. After cordoning off the area and conducting a thorough assessment, search, and recovery operation, the location was declared safe and free of any IED threat,” the Command said.

CP Fatai, during his visit, urged residents of Mushin and surrounding areas to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring them of adequate security deployment to safeguard lives and property.

The reassurance follows a pattern of heightened sensitivity to explosive-related alerts in the area, especially in light of a 2025 incident in which a bomb explosion on Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba, in Mushin Local Government Area was linked to a scavenger attempting to dismantle military-grade grenades.

The explosion reportedly claimed the life of the scavenger and left three others injured. Findings at the time indicated that the individual was handling one of the grenades when it detonated, killing him instantly
