PDP Faction Opposing Ex-Kano Governor Holds Parallel Ward Congress

The Kano State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) witnessed a parallel ward congress today, orchestrated by a faction led by Ibrahim Al’amin Little and Sadiq Wali. The faction accused the group led by Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Bello Hayatu Gwarzo of conducting improper actions within the party, calling for immediate intervention from the national leadership.

The congress, held separately from the faction loyal to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Bello Hayatu, was described as an effort to ensure transparency and uphold the principles of fairness within the party’s democratic processes. The Little-Wali faction has expressed concerns that key decisions affecting the state party are being manipulated by certain leaders, jeopardizing the unity and electoral success of the PDP in Kano.

In a statement, Ibrahim Al’amin Little and Sadiq Wali emphasized that their faction’s congress adhered to the party’s guidelines and that their actions reflect the growing frustration with the leadership style of Shekarau and Hayatu.

“We are committed to the ideals of democracy and justice within the PDP. We cannot stand by while certain individuals act as though they are above the party’s rules and procedures. We call on the national leadership to intervene and bring order to the Kano State chapter before this crisis escalates further,” said Ibrahim Al’amin Little.

The faction expressed its willingness to work towards reconciliation but stressed that this would only be possible if the party leadership in Abuja takes decisive steps to address the alleged imbalances. The national leadership of the PDP is being urged to convene and take necessary actions to prevent the situation from undermining the party’s preparations for upcoming elections.

The parallel congress is yet another development in the ongoing internal struggles within the Kano PDP, with fears that it could impact the party’s electoral prospects in the 2024 general elections if not properly managed.

The faction concluded by reaffirming its commitment to the PDP and its principles, while cautioning that the failure to address these issues could lead to further divisions within the state chapter.
