Open AI to Challenge Google on AI Driven Web Browser

Artificial intelligence pioneer OpenAI is preparing to launch its own web browser, directly taking aim at Google Chrome’s dominance.

Sources familiar with the plans say the AI-integrated browser could change how millions of people use the internet by keeping user interactions inside a ChatGPT-style chat, potentially limiting the need to visit external sites.

The move would give OpenAI more access to user data — a key driver of Google’s advertising revenue, which currently accounts for about 75% of Alphabet’s earnings. If OpenAI can tap into its 500 million weekly active ChatGPT users, analysts say the browser could reshape competition in the search and ad markets.

OpenAI declined to comment, but the new product aligns with CEO Sam Altman’s ambition to embed AI deeper into everyday life. The launch follows OpenAI’s recent $6.5 billion acquisition of io, the AI hardware firm founded by Apple’s former design chief, Jony Ive
