Night Operation: Troops Kill 17 Terrorists in Bicycle Ambush, Seize Weapons, Supplies

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in collaboration with local vigilante elements, have neutralised 17 suspected terrorists and disrupted a major insurgent logistics operation during a coordinated night ambush in the North-East.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, followed actionable intelligence on the movement of logistics supplies by suspected Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements.

Acting on the intelligence, OPHK troops, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, moved into concealed positions along the Sojiri–Kayamla axis on the night of December 20.

Military sources said the terrorists, mounted on bicycles and transporting supplies, arrived at the designated interception point as anticipated. Troops engaged the group in a swift and decisive exchange, neutralising 17 insurgents, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Items recovered at the scene included multiple bicycles, assorted food items, drugs and medical supplies, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, and other logistics materials.

Troops also recovered assorted weapons of different calibres with ammunition, dealing a significant blow to the terrorists’ sustainment capability.

Following the successful ambush, the troops withdrew safely to their base, while exploitation and follow-up operations commenced to further assess the area and deny insurgents freedom of movement.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, noting that the operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven, joint security efforts in degrading terrorist networks.

Troops were urged to sustain the current operational tempo as clearance operations continue across the theatre.
