Nigerian  @65: Tinubu Appeals for Unity and Collective Progress

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as the country marks its 65th independence anniversary.

Speaking at the National Mosque, Abuja, during a special Jumaat prayer on Friday to commemorate the occasion, the President—represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris—said national progress could only be achieved if citizens work together despite differences.

“Differences will always exist,” Idris quoted the President as saying. “But Mr President’s message is one of hope, unity, and togetherness. All Nigerians must imbibe these values so that, collectively, we can achieve the progress and prosperity that he has promised since assuming office.”

Tinubu acknowledged the challenges facing the nation but stressed that his administration is making steady progress in addressing them. He called for patience, noting that reforms were already reshaping the economy, security, and critical sectors.

He also congratulated Nigerians on the milestone, urging citizens to pray for the country’s leaders and to work “hand in hand” to build what he described as the Nigeria of our dreams.

The theme for this year’s independence celebration is “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”

Other dignitaries at the prayer session included the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Kyari, who expressed optimism that Nigeria is on track to reclaim its rightful place in the comity of nations.

Similarly, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Traditional Council, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, called for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians and prayed for continued prosperity, unity, and stability.

The anniversary celebrations continue with a series of events scheduled nationwide, culminating in the official commemoration on October 1.
