The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone D, has commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for reforms and interventions in immigration, correctional services and youth development.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, the students’ body said it had monitored the activities of the Ministry of Interior since Tunji-Ojo assumed office in August 2023.
NANS highlighted the clearance of more than 204,000 passport applications in about two and a half weeks, alongside the introduction of contactless passport renewal, increased automation of immigration processes and the deployment of electronic gates at international airports.
The association also commended the minister’s support for the “Students to CEO 2.0” Entrepreneurship Summit, through which business equipment was provided to 200 students from 10 tertiary institutions in Ondo State.
According to NANS, beneficiaries received items including industrial sewing machines, deep freezers and power generators to support their entrepreneurial activities and income-generating ventures.
The students’ body further cited interventions in the Nigerian Correctional Service, including the settlement of fines for more than 4,000 inmates who remained in custody because they could not afford relatively minor financial penalties.
NANS said the measures it identified had contributed to improvements in public service delivery, youth empowerment and correctional administration.
