Microsoft’s AI chatbot Copilot will stop working on WhatsApp from January 15, following changes to WhatsApp’s platform policies restricting general-purpose AI bots from operating via its Business API.

After the removal, users will only be able to access Copilot through Microsoft’s mobile apps or web interface. Chat history will not transfer automatically because the WhatsApp integration was unauthenticated — users have been advised to export their chats manually before the deadline.

The policy shift, introduced by Meta last month, affects other AI platforms including OpenAI and Perplexity, both of which are also withdrawing from WhatsApp
