A man simply identified as Ikechi is accused of murdering his father with a pestle in Rumuaghaolu, Rivers State’s Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

According to our source, the suspect begged his father for an undisclosed sum of money, but grew enraged when the deceased refused.

According to an eyewitness who requested anonymity, the event occurred about 2.45pm on Thursday.

The source said, “He was enraged over the deceased’s refusal to give him money yesterday (Thursday).

“The boy was suspected to be on drugs. He carried a pestle and hit his father.”

He said the suspect, on realising what he had done, tried to flee the scene, but was held by some residents after a neighbour raised the alarm.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident. She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The boy has been arrested and the matter transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Investigation is still ongoing. If there are further developments I will let you know. For now, the boy is with us.”
