A lecturer of the Faculty of Administration at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Dr Comfort Adokwe, who was recently abducted, has regained freedom after her family and well-wishers paid N5m ransom to her abductors.

Heavily armed men had on Sunday night invaded her residence at Angwan Jaba in the Keffi Local Government Area of the state and whisked her away to an unknown destination.

One of her family members, who pleaded anonymity, told The PUNCH on Wednesday that the lecturer had regained her freedom.

The source, however, said due to the shock she experienced in the past few days, she had been at a hospital for medical examination since she was released.

“I was told that the sum of N5m was paid before she was released by the bandits. She is still undergoing medical examination, so we can be very sure that she is fine because the experience was really a sad one.

“Kidnappers and other criminal elements have been doing whatever they like, especially here in northern Nigeria. The government should urgently look into the matter because many people are now living in fear due to the insecurity,” the source said.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts made to get the reaction of the Nasarawa State Police command through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, proved abortive as he did not respond to calls and messages put across to his mobile lines.
