The Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), says it has intercepted Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment valued at N80 million allegedly stolen from a school in Kano metropolis.

Its Managing Director, Faisal Mahmud, said this in a statement by the spokesman of the agency, Abubakar Ibrahim,  on Wednesday in Kano.

He said that a patrol team of the agency intercepted the equipment allegedly stolen from Aisha Shehu Government Junior Secondary School, Kuka, in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

Mahmud said suspected thieves burgled the school’s ICT room through the roofs, and carted away solar panels, computers and other accessories.

“The thieves, who are about 10 in number, overpowered the security guards, tied them and commenced their evil acts around 2:00 am on Wednesday.

“The agency received a distressed call around past 2:00 am, and immediately mobilised and stormed the school.

“On sighting the patrol vehicles, the thieves abandoned the stolen equipment and fled,” he said.

While commending the personnel for prompt response to the distress call, Mahmud urged the public to cooperate with the agency to safeguard lives and property.

The statement also quoted Rufa’atu Mahmud, Principal of the school, as commending the agency for its vigilance.

She said the equipment were provided under the World Bank funded AGILE project, aimed at deepening ICT knowledge among girls in the state.
