Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has advised the incoming governor, Dr. Alex Otti to prioritise children’s education.

This was even as the former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has cautioned against child abuse and other social vices.

Ikpeazu in his message to Abia children on the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day Celebration, assured them that he is confident that successive administrations in the State will continue to prioritize their welfare through education and strong moral values.

The governor described them as “resilient, strong, brilliant and innovative assured them that their futures remain bright, and urged them to continue to toe the path of hard work and honesty”.

Ikpeazu, who is rounding up his 8 years as Governor of Abia State Monday, challenged Abia children to avoid negative vices like cultism, use of drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as all forms of criminality.

“As I take my exit as your Governor in the next 2 days, all my Children in Abia should rest assured that I will continually keep you in my prayers for God to keep them and direct their paths as they grow into responsible adults that will bring pride and honor to themselves, their families, our state, Abia and our country, Nigeria”, the Governor concludes.

Similarly, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu also urged the government at all levels to uphold the child rights act, stressing that children are leaders of tomorrow.

The former Governor pointed out that children play vital roles in building a nation and applauded parents and guardians for consistently mentoring and parenting children.

According to the Chief Whip of the Senate in his statement, “I felicitate with children across the globe in commemoration of 2023 Children’s Day.

“I am delighted to commend parents, guardians, and policymakers for their efforts in raising responsible and good children who are future leaders and as such, deserve good living conditions with proper care by parents and guardians.

“For us to build an ideal society, the rights of children as stipulated in the child rights act must be respected by all and sundry and children must have access to quality education, healthcare, nutritious food, housing, and others.

“Collectively, we must protect children by criminalizing a range of anti-child acts including child labor, child abuse, child rape, exploitation for pornography, and violence against children.

“As parents and guardians, it is our responsibility to raise good children by upholding good moral conduct in our endeavors
