ICPC Grills Ngige Over  Contract, Job Racketeering

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has interrogated former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, regarding his involvement in contracts and job racketeering within the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) during his tenure. Ngige was questioned for about five hours concerning multi-million naira contracts, including the controversial electronic NSITF (e-NSITF), which had received approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This development follows earlier investigations into NSITF over the payment of N47 million in gratuity to former Managing Director Mrs. Maureen Allagoa, and the probe initiated by Ngige’s successor, Simon Lalong, over contract irregularities worth N1.8 billion.

Ngige’s appearance at the ICPC headquarters came after he returned from a medical trip to the United States. Sources confirmed that Ngige voluntarily responded to the agency’s invitation to clarify the approval processes for the contracts in question. The ICPC is continuing its investigation into the matter.
