Hypocrite’, Nigerians slam Soyinka over ‘OBIdient Movement’ remarks

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has been dragged on social media for his remarks on the supporters of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Prof Soyinka, in a statement titled, “Media responsibility,’’ on Tuesday, had said he warned the LP flag-bearer on “excesses” of his supporters, otherwise known as ‘Obidients’.

“My rejection of fascism is nothing new. On three occasions, I was able to send a message to Peter Obi that if he lost the election, it would be his followers who lost it for him.

“It was depressing to watch his lieutenant, a crucially positioned voice of a movement that has ‘broken the mould’, threaten the totality of social existence,” Soyinka was quoted as saying.

Reacting, some Nigerians have since taken to social media to knock the literary icon over the statement credited to him.

Prof wole Soyinka has refused to answer every question AriseTV asked him. He is such a hypocrite. He is yet to say what Datti Ahmed said that’s wrong or inciting. You are okay with sowere #Revolutionnow but you have problem with Datti asking for constitution to be followed.

Wole Soyinka is among the privileged class so I don’t expect him to say anything positive. He has never at any point in time been a voice to look up to in terms of speaking against the injustice going on in the country.
He should not talk down on our struggles.
