The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has said the arrest of Instagram socialite, Raymond Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi, is not enough to see all Nigerians excelling abroad as fraudsters.

MERIDIAN SPY reported Thursday, Hushpuppi is being held by Dubai Police and not America’s FBI or Interpol as widely reported.

According to UAE’s online newspaper, The National, the Nigerian alleged fraudster, Hushpuppi was arrested on multiple fraud charges, along with 12 other accomplices, adding that his real name is Raymond Abbas and his real age as 38 years.

Hours later, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him “Nigeria’s most-wanted hacker.

According to Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, the commission is now tracking other fraudsters directly involved with Hushpuppi, adding that “he has a case to answer.”

Reacting via her official Twitter handle on Thursday, Dabiri-Erewa noted: “allegations against Ramoni Igbalode aka Hushpuppi running into millions in fraud. I stress again, not a yardstick to judge Nigerians excelling abroad. One bad apple should indeed not spoil the whole bunch.”

Commenting further on the EFCC’s declaration, she noted: “we await EFCC’s further and thorough investigation as well as further updates on the case. We advise and urge Nigerians abroad to be law-abiding citizens, be good ambassadors, and not tarnish the image of the country.”
