Four reps defect from PDP, LP to APC

Four members of the house of representatives have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Inuwa Garuba (Yamaltu/Deba federal constituency of Gombe), Abdullahi El-Rasheed (Dakku/Nafada federal constituency of Gombe), and Mohammed Audu (Karim Lamido Lau/Ardo-Kola federal constituency), defected from the PDP to the APC.

Obika Chinedu, lawmaker representing Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), moved from the LP to the APC.

Adewale Adebayo, who represents Irepodun/Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu federal constituency of Osun state, formally joined Accord from the PDP.

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, read the defection notices during Wednesday’s plenary.

The lawmakers said internal crises in their former parties prompted their defection.
The PDP is grappling with a leadership crisis that has polarised the party into two factions.

One faction, led by Kabiru Turaki, is backed by Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, and Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi.

The other faction, headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has the support of Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The internal rift has triggered a wave of defections to the APC.
