Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has on Sunday imposed a 24 hour curfew on the state after some hoodlums invaded two government warehouses and carted away assorted food items.

In what appeared like the reenactment of the #ENDSARS protests of 2020, hoodlums reportedly as early as 9:00am invaded the warehouses located at PZ and Kwanar Waya and carted away items including rice, noodles, seasoning, palm oil etc.

It was reported that the hoodlums mostly youths in their prime partake in the looting spree prodding governor Fintiri to immediately impose the curfew to prevent a repeat of the 2020 episode in which the state was taken over by hoodlums for almost 48 hours.

The mobile police and soldiers were quickly mobilized to the two warehouses and immediately engaged the hoodlums.

A resident of the area Jamilu Sani told our reporter that the team of police and soldiers deployed have successfully dispersed the mob.

“Mobile policemen and soldier were drafted to disperse the mob. From where I’m I can hear sound of gunshots and the pungent smell of teargas. From reports at our disposal, the combined team of police and soldiers have disperse the crowd,” he said.

in a swift reaction to the incident, governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri according to a statement by his Chief press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou has imposed a 24 hour curfew on the state.

Governor Fintiri said the curfew followed the dangerous dimension the activities of hoodlums had assumed across the state capital as they attack people with matches and breaking into business premises carting away properties.

“With the curfew imposed, there will be no movement throughout the state,” the statement said.

He said, only those on essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move around during the period of the curfew.

“The Governor is appealing to citizens and residents of the state to comply with the directive, adding that any person found contravening the order would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law,”

There is a growing tension in Nigeria following the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government which saw price of goods and services going through the roof top.
