‎The Federal Government has applauded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for offering fully funded scholarships to 50 Nigerian students in petroleum and mineral studies, describing the initiative as a major boost to human capital development and bilateral relations.
‎
‎Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the commendation on Monday in Abuja while receiving the Saudi Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef Bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, during a courtesy visit.
‎
‎‎Idris said the scholarship programme aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen key sectors of the economy through capacity building.

‎

‎He described the offer as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, particularly in the petroleum and solid minerals sectors, which remain critical to economic growth and diversification.

‎

‎According to the minister, the annual nature of the programme would ensure long-term benefits for Nigeria by producing a steady stream of skilled professionals for critical industries.

‎

‎“The fact that this initiative is designed to be continuous, with 50 Nigerian students benefiting year after year, makes it even more impactful,” he said.

‎

‎Idris also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia and implementing pending agreements between both countries, including Memoranda of Understanding in broadcasting and other sectors.

‎

‎He further expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid tensions in the Gulf region, while calling for peace, stability and diplomatic resolution of disputes.

‎

‎Earlier, Ambassador Al-Balawi said the scholarship offer was conveyed through an official communication from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.

‎He disclosed that the package covers tuition fees, travel tickets, accommodation and monthly stipends for the beneficiaries.

‎

‎The ambassador said the initiative reflects the strong relationship between both countries and represents genuine cooperation aimed at investing in the future of Nigerian youth.

‎

‎Al-Balawi also highlighted efforts to expand economic cooperation in trade and investment, describing Nigeria and Saudi Arabia as regional economic powers with vast partnership potential.

‎

‎Senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation were present at the meeting.
