FCT Police Debunks Reported Assassination Attempt on Lt. Yerima

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed social media reports alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima, describing the claims as entirely false and capable of causing unnecessary public panic.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command had not received any report of an attack on Yerima, contrary to widely circulated online publications suggesting the military officer narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory,” Adeh said, urging the public to disregard what she termed a “false publication.” She noted that spreading unverified claims—such as the alleged assault on Lt. Yerima—could heighten tension and mislead residents.

The police spokesperson encouraged FCT residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or threats to public safety. She also provided emergency contacts for swift response: 08032003913 and 08068587311.

Adeh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the territory.
