The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has advised residents, particularly young people, not to surrender their mobile phones for searches by unauthorised individuals.

The police chief stressed that only security personnel acting within the law and under appropriate circumstances have the authority to conduct such searches. He urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid being intimidated by impostors or criminals posing as law enforcement officers.

The commissioner also encouraged members of the public to request proper identification from anyone claiming to be a security operative and to report suspicious activities or cases of harassment to the nearest police station or relevant authorities.

The advisory forms part of efforts by the FCT Police Command to educate residents on their rights, promote lawful policing and curb incidents of extortion and impersonation within the nation’s capital.
