Ex-IG obtains APC nomination form, Says No Consensus in Nasarawa Guber Poll

Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has rejected the consensus move by Senator Ahmed Wadada, the preferred successor of Governor Abdullahi Sule, insisting that he would go ahead with the contest.

Our correspondent reports that Senator Wadada, who currently represents the Nasarawa West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, had hinted that he and other party leaders were working hard to secure a consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election, to enable him to succeed at the polls.

Meanwhile, during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council Secretariat on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital, the Director General of the Mohammed Abubakar Adamu 2027 Political Movement, Musa Hussein, noted that his principal is determined to go into the APC primaries because he believes strongly in his popularity.

The Director General disclosed that the former IG had, in the early hours of Tuesday, obtained his governorship expression of interest and nomination forms, insisting that they are fully prepared to win the forthcoming APC primary despite the governor’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada.

He said, “We are not considering the issue of consensus because we are in this contest to win the forthcoming governorship primary election of the APC and the 2027 governorship election.

“Just today, my principal, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms for the governorship election.

“The former IGP is ready to go into a free, fair, and credible primary election, and I can assure the entire residents of Nasarawa State that we will emerge victorious.”

Speaking on recent political developments within the party, particularly on the endorsement and adoption of a preferred governorship aspirant by Governor Sule, the Director General of the Ex-IGP campaign team, noted that the action is considered unconstitutional, misleading, and a direct threat to internal party democracy.

Hussein noted that the APC constitution clearly provides only two legitimate methods for the emergence of candidates: direct primaries or consensus, insisting that there is no provision for unilateral adoption or imposition of any aspirant by individuals or party structures.

He lamented that reports indicate several ward executives and party officials were subjected to undue pressure, raising serious concerns about the credibility of the process, noting that any outcome derived under such conditions cannot be regarded as democratic or valid.

Hussein said, “It is also important to clarify that no national endorsement has been granted for any governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State. Any attempt to associate such claims with a higher authority is misleading and should be disregarded.

“Equally troubling are reports of intimidation directed at public office holders, including local government officials, councillors, and aides, allegedly being coerced to support a particular aspirant under threat of removal. This is unacceptable. Public officials are representatives of the people, not instruments of political coercion.

“A governorship primary is a democratic contest, not a coronation. Every aspirant deserves a fair and level playing field. The use of state influence to favour one individual undermines party unity and erodes public confidence.”

He further urged party officials at all levels to be reminded that neutrality is a constitutional obligation, noting that any involvement in premature endorsement or partisan alignment before the primaries constitutes misconduct and will be resisted.

Hussein called on the party’s national leadership to urgently review these developments, nullify any unconstitutional declarations, and reaffirm adherence to due process.

“Let it be clearly stated that the only legitimate process for selecting the party’s governorship candidate in Nasarawa State remains the direct primary election scheduled for 21st May 2026. This process must be transparent and free from interference,” he insisted.
