Enugu Police Raid Firearms Factory, Recover 10 Guns

The Enugu State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication and repair workshop in Udi Local Government Area, recovering at least 10 guns and other weapon-making materials.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the breakthrough followed the arrest and confession of a 32-year-old cultist, Ekene Okafor, a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, who was earlier apprehended for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Acting on credible intelligence and Okafor’s confession, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad raided the workshop located in Amofia-Agu Affa community in Udi LGA around 4 p.m. on June 30, 2025. During the operation, the police recovered:

One locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun,Two English-made double-barrel guns, Eight single-barrel guns, Two live cartridges and eight expended cartridges, Three generator sets, Assorted firearms fabrication and repair tools, Other incriminating exhibits

Ndukwe said the suspect had taken officers to the site where his personal weapon was undergoing maintenance. The owner of the illegal workshop, however, fled on sighting the operatives and is currently on the run. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for the intelligence-driven operation and reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and associated crimes in the state.

He urged residents of Enugu State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and continue to support the police with timely and credible information.
