An aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gideon Ikhine has stepped down from the governorship race in the party for Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Ikhine made public his decision to quit the governoship race for Obaseki on Monday, at a ceremony in Benin which had in attendance, the governor himself, the state party chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and other party leaders across the state.

He said there was no progress without a sacrifice, adding that the governor’s defection to the party was God’s great answer to the party and his aspiration.

The PDP aspirant emphasised he was not actually stepping down, but ” stepping behind the man who would lead the party to glory come Sept. 19″.

He added that two persons could have the same vision but the means of approaching them could be different.

He further assured that he and his supporters had resolved to work with the governor to ensure that a better tomorrow is achieved in the state.

On his part, the governor appreciated Ikhine for his show of solidarity.

“I appreciate my brother and co-aspirant, @EngrIkhine, who has aligned with me, in sustaining the devtal strides in Edo State, as the @OfficialPDPNig primary election draws near,” he noted on Twitter.

“He brings with him a structure spread across 192 wards, and we appreciate the show of solidarity.”

The PDP primary election is scheduled to hold on Friday June 25 and whoever wins the party’s ticket will go against Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who recently emerged the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate and other parties’ candidate in the September gubernatorial election in the state.
