DHML hosts Military Veterans, Enrolls 110,000 Retirees

The Defence Health Maintenance Limited (DHML) has conveyed an interactive Meeting with the various Military Veteran Groups, in its Year 2023 edition.

The theme: “Advancing the health care of Military Veterans ” to consolidate on the gains of last year meeting.

 

Speaking during the one day interaction, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, His Excellency, Dr Bello Matawalle said the DHML has so far captured about 110,000 (One Hundred and Ten Thousand retired military veterans as enrolees on her database.

 

The Minister who was represented by the Director, Health Services, Ministry of Defence, called on all military veterans who are yet to be enrolled as DHML enrolees to key into the programme.

He further added that efforts is being put in place to ensure illnesses not currently included in the Benefits Package for the health insurance cover of the military veterans would be covered in due course.

In his Keynote Address during the parley, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the DHML, Surgeon Rear Admiral Azeez Bayo Afolayan (Rtd), noted that the meeting was aimed at sensitizing the representatives of the various military veteran groups on the  Benefit Package available to their members, the necessity of enrolling on the DHML database and the eligibility criteria for prospective enrolees.

According to him, the first meeting which took place on 3 March, 2022 with 16 groups saw an upsurge in enrollment by military retirees with DHMl after the interaction.

He further stated that DHML recently created the new Department of Care Coordination to further ensure seamless access to healthcare by the DHML enrolees in the various hospital and medical centres where they may be accessing healthcare.

Rear Admiral Afolayan (Rtd) also said the meeting was able to clear misconceptions on eligibility and benefits packages.

He noted that the core mandate of the DHML is to ensure that all military personnel, both serving and retired, their spouses and 4 biological children below 18 have easy access to good and qualitative health care services.
