The government of Benin Republic has confirmed its first case of the deadly coronavirus disease.

The country’s Health Minister, Benjamin Hounkpatin confirmed this on Monday, stating that the patient, a man who came into the country from Burkina Faso, tested positive after recently visiting Belgium.

This confirmation however brings the total number of African countries to have recorded cases of the covid-19 to twenty-seven, with some taken strigent measures such as shutting down schools as well as suspending public gatherings in a bid to stem the rising spread of the virus disease.
