Seyi Law, the stand-up comedian and supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has condemned the federal government’s proposed budget of N5 billion for the purchase of a presidential yacht.

The federal government on Wednesday earmarked N12.7 billion for the presidential air fleet and N5 billion for the purchase of a presidential yacht in the 2023 supplementary budget.

The allocation, which is part of the capital expenditure in the navy’s budget, has sparked public outrage.

Reacting in a post via X, formerly Twitter, the comedian disapproved of the government’s choice to invest in a presidential yacht, which he deemed “insensitive to the plight of Nigerians”.

He also urged the president to reconsider the decision.

“I am absolutely not in support of the procurement of the presidential yacht,” he wrote.

“It is quite insensitive to the plight of Nigerians at this moment to even rationalise it.

“I call on the president, @officialABAT, to once again prove to Nigerians that he listens. Thank you, your Excellency.”

The development followed after Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson of the house of representatives, confirmed FG’s procurement of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) valued at N160 million for the 360 members of the lower chamber.

Also, the government recently allocated N50 billion to finance the construction of 40,000 housing units as part of the “renewed hope” agenda in its 2024 supplementary budget.

In February, Law endorsed Tinubu as his preferred presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.
