The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) injected about N10.89tn into the financial system in September 2026 through repayments on maturing Open Market Operations (OMO) bills, even as it sold fresh securities worth N17.51tn during the month.
The repayments, representing about 62 per cent of the apex bank’s gross OMO sales, partly offset the liquidity withdrawn through fresh auctions.
The CBN conducted five major OMO auctions during the month, while maturing securities returned funds to investors at different points in September.
Despite the repayments, fresh OMO sales exceeded the amount returned, resulting in a net liquidity withdrawal of about N6.62tn from the financial system.
The figures highlight the CBN’s continued use of OMO operations to manage liquidity and influence financial market conditions, with investor demand remaining strong during the month.
