Following the sack of Prof. Charles Uwakwe and four others over allegations of financial impropriety, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Godswill Obioma as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examinations Council, NECO.

According to a letter dated May 15 and signed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, the new appointment is for five years and took effect from May 14.

The spokesperson of the examination body however released a statement on Friday evening, noting that Obioma officially took over from the former Acting Registrar, Abubakar Gana, on May 22 at the Council’s headquarters in Minna.

The new NECO Registrar, Mr Obioma, from Bende, Abia State, is a professor of Education Measurement and Evaluation and also a former Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council.

Until his appointment as Registrar and CEO of NECO, he was the Ebonyi State Resident Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
