Abu Imrana, a Boko Haram commander, has been killed in a gun battle with soldiers in Borno State.

A security source disclosed this to The Cable on Monday, saying Imrana is among the insurgents who fell to the superior firepower of the military in the Marte area of the state.

According to the source, the late militant commander coordinated the recent attacks in Monguno, Gubio and Nganzai.

He was also said to have participated in major operations around the Lake Chad region.

He was formerly of the Abubakar Shekau faction of the sect but crossed to the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), the source also revealed.

Some of the military formations he led attacks against are at Garunda and Metele.

Recall 42 persons were Saturday killed, after Boko Haram terrorists attacked Goni Usmanti village in the said Gubio local government area of Borno State.

In a related development, Ground troops of Sector 3 and Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE successfully repelled attack by the insurgents who attempted to breach Munguno Town, still in Borno.

The death of the Boko Haram commander will no doubt be a boost in the fight against insurgency.
