Bandits Kill 13 Worshippers in Katsina Mosque Attac

The Katsina State Government has deployed additional security forces following a deadly attack in which bandits killed 13 worshippers inside a mosque in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Unguwan Mantau community during dawn (Fajr) prayers. According to reports, the assailants stormed the mosque in what was described as a reprisal attack, opening fire on worshippers and leaving 13 people dead.

Speaking on the development, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, confirmed the incident and announced immediate reinforcement of security personnel in the affected area.

“The attack was carried out by criminal elements in retaliation for the community’s successful defence two days earlier. Residents of Unguwan Mantau had ambushed the bandits, killed some of them, rescued kidnapped victims from Ruwan Sanyi village, and recovered three motorcycles as well as two AK-47 rifles,” he said.

Dr. Mu’azu explained that security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and Police, had been mobilised to restore calm in the community and pursue the attackers.

“The air component commander of the Forward Operating Base, alongside ground troops and police units, are currently in the area to flush out the criminals. During the rainy season, these bandits often take cover in farms and bushes to carry out attacks, but efforts are ongoing to track them down and bring them to justice,” he added.

The Commissioner commended the bravery of residents who resisted the bandits, assuring them of government’s continued support in strengthening community-based security initiatives.

“The Katsina State Government salutes the gallantry of the people of Unguwan Mantau. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirm our commitment to eliminating criminal elements across the state,” he said.
