Nigerian Army has debunked claim by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State that the attack on his convoy was carried out by soldiers. Recall the Governor’s convoy was attacked last week Monday while on his way to some internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Kukawa local government area of the state. Following the attack, Governor Zulum was full of disbelief that it was an attack by Boko Haram Insurgents but alleged sabotage on the part of the army, claiming the attackers were soldiers. Nigeria is the collective heritage of about 200 million people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and tongues. There are over 250 ethnic nationalities spread across the country. Nigeria does not belong only to the Igbo, the Hausa and the Yoruba. Unfortunately, these three so-called ‘’major ethnic groups’’ have defined the political and economic actualities of the country since independence. Even among the ‘’big three’’, there are splinter groups of distinct cosmology. Again, Nigeria does not belong only to the Igbo, the Hausa and the Yoruba. It belongs to every group subsisting in the entity irrespective of population size. But sadly, these…
Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide International, also known as Winners Chapel, says coronavirus pandemic is just the beginning of the woes to be visited on the world “before the Lord returns.” Oyedepo stated this while delivering his sermon on the topic “Gateways to Financial Fortunes (4)” at Sunday’s Financial Fortune Banquet service. With reference to following biblical verses; Matthew 24: 7/8; Joel 2:1-3/11; Malachi 4:2 and Malachi 3:10/18; 4:1-3, he noted that “everyone in the army of the Lord will manifest greatness in the thick darkness.” The cleric said those growing amid the struggle of the era…

If Nigeria’s young are timid, tractable and apathetic to economic and political issues affecting their country blame the anvil on which they are forged. The government, the formative schools, the universities and the predatory politics – all are the forgers of today’s youth. A system which lobotomises the young from nascency has already denied them not only the ability to emote, think, act, but also the power to speak up for themselves, fight for their rights and defend themselves. There was a time in Nigeria when the youth held the fort. They were unbending to the caprices of the military…
Nigerian Army troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole have killed a top Boko Haram Commander named Sayinna and several other fighters during an encounter with the terrorists. The troops also reportedly killed an Imam and Mansur to Abu Fatima; a Boko Haram top commander who, according to the Nigeria military, hibernated in Sambisa forest. This was contained in a statement by Maj. Gen. John Enenche, Defence Media Coordinator issued on Sunday. A total of 35 doctors have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus pandemic in Kwara State. This was made known in a statement by Kolade Solagberu, the state chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) on Monday. Solagberu cautioned residents to disregard the belief that COVID-19 is not real, while also encouraging them to avoid visiting hospitals during this pandemic period, unless it is a “life-threatening” case. “Residents should help the doctors to help them by not paying unnecessary visits or consultations to hospitals,” he said. “For now, people should avoid visiting the hospital except for life-threatening issues. “We advise people to…
How much progress has Nigeria made with its ethnic-motility politics? Since 1999, we have had presidents of different ethnic extractions – Yoruba, Fulani, and Ijaw – who were largely elected on the portfolio of ethnicity and religion rather than on the content of their minds? But how have we fared? The Obasanjo administration despite investing billions of dollars, estimated to be around $16 billion, in the power sector, did not crack a fire; the country is still trolled by the undersupply of electricity. And subsequent administrations, including the current one are yet to find the X of the power problem.…
Gunmen suspected to be sponsored by the Kogi State Government on Wednesday attacked staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Sahara Reporters reports. They ransacked the Medical Director’s office, too. Speaking at a prayer session for the late Nasir Ajana, Kogi Chief…
I think the Yobe State governor, Mai-Mala Buni is currently the acting chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). For those of us who follow Nigerian politics on a day-by-day basis, it has been a whirlwind of a week. A few days ago, the party chairman was Adams Oshiomhole. Then a court threw him out. And we all know that courts have no basis in determining who runs parties; but this is Nigeria. Another court then decided that the acting assistant general secretary, one Victor Giadom, is the new acting chairman, which was rather confusing, as the party has…
