The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into the death of a hotel manager in Umuahia, Abia State, following allegations of misconduct by soldiers.

Army spokesperson, Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the probe was ordered by Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja, to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and hold anyone found culpable accountable.

This follows reports that the hotel manager was brutalized by soldiers after a Nigerian Air Force cadet drowned at the hotel’s swimming pool.

He also conveyed the condolences of the Nigerian army to families of the deceased manager, Mr Achimugu James Etubi and the Nigerian Air Force Officer Cadet, Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyemereche.

Nwachukwu assured the public that every effort would be made to ensure that justice was served.

“The army is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discipline, and therefore, any personnel found culpable of wrongdoing will face appropriate legal sanctions.

“Furthermore, the Nigerian army reaffirms its unwavering dedication to safeguarding the security of all citizens.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to promote lasting peace and security throughout Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Army is resolute in its pursuit of truth and justice, and we will keep the public informed at the conclusion of the investigation,” he said.

PRNigeria gathered that an online medium had alledged that soldiers from the Nigerian Army brutally killed a section manager at Hotel Royal Damgrete in Umuahia. This follows the reported drowning of a Nigerian Air Force cadet at the hotel’s swimming pool.
