The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, may have adopted a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godwill Akpabio, as President of the Senate in the coming 10th National Assembly.

Politic Digest reported from a reliable source at the meeting which was held at the Defence House on Friday that the leadership of the APC and top members of the party have also endorsed Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, as Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.

According to the source, Senator Ahmed Lawan, the outgoing Senate President, had shown interest in retaining his position, but he was was told by the President-elect, to drop the ambition.

Meanwhile, another source also disclosed to POLITICS DIGEST that the zoning of the position of Deputy Senate President and that of Speaker is causing a major rift among the lawmakers.

The source added that the exclusion of the North Central from the power sharing formula generated serious ripples at the meeting but everyone had to bow to the superior argument of the president-elect.

The south-east will be having the Deputy speaker position as Benjamin Kalu, a lawmaker representing Bende Federal constituency, Abia state, is favoured to clinch it.

Earlier, other aspirants such as Idris Wase from Plateau state, north central, and Ado Doguwa, from Kano state had vowed to respect the zoning formula as part of their loyalty to party.
