The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu has kicked against direct primary for the election of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the September governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced that the mode of election for the party primary in the state would be direct, which was the preferred method for the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and the resolve of the National Working Committee of the party.
But reacting, the deputy governor said INEC was making a mistake by accepting the positin of Oshiomhole on the mode of primary election to be conducted in the state.
He further accused the former governor of submitting fake voters register to INEC, stating that “those who have the authentic party registration diary at the State level were yet to be consulted.
“Oshiomhole can’t be talking about a direct primary when he doesn’t have the diary of register party members,” Shuaibu said.
Oshiomhole must have given fake voters register to INEC because those who have the authentic party registration diary at the State level were not consulted.
“Only a few members of the National Working committee that are loyal to Oshiomhole were present when the decisions of how Edo State Governorship election was taken.
“Oshiomhole has turned the table around where he alone now serves as both the State and National Chairman. He speaks for himself and also speaks for the State.”
The APC primary is scheduled to hold on Monday June 22.
