Alleged Looting In NDDC Under Akpabio, A Mess Of Buhari, APC Self-Professed Fight Against Corruption – Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor, has mocked the President, Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the alleged financial mismanagement in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under the watch of Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

Akpabio and the acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof. Daniel Pondei were Monday grilled by the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC over alleged illegal spending and mismanagement of fund under their leadership.

The House as well as the Senate had on May 5, 2020, separately resolved to investigate the alleged spending of over N40bn by the Expanded Interim Management Committee of the NDDC between October 2019 and May 2020 without approval. It was later discovered that N81.5bn had been spent within the period.

At the investigative hearing held at the Conference Room 231 of the House yesterday Monday, the Minister accused National Assembly members of receiving most of the contracts awarded by the commission while also denying series of malfeasance levelled against him.

However, reacting to the development via his official Twitter handle on Monday, Fayose taunted the Buhari-led APC government, describing it as “a family of corruption”.

“Isn’t it now clear for all to see that this APC govt of Buhari is a family of corruption? Just like Magu Gate and others before it, the looting of NDDC under the control of Senator Godswill Akpabio has again made a mess of their self-professed fight against corruption,” he said.

“And like I have maintained,  the only thing being done with the so-called fight against corruption is to persecute opposition figures.  Rogues all over the world,  the moment they decamp to APC,  they will be accorded the prime of place in their govt.

“We only hope that like others that have happened in this govt, this will not be swept under the carpet. They should not make it the usual family affairs. Nigerians want to see its end.  Akpabio and others must be fully investigated and charged to court if found culpable.”
