Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has made an emotional appeal to Nigerians, urging them to forgive her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, for any mistakes he may have made while in office.

President Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, died after a brief illness in London today.

Speaking shortly after his passing, Mrs Buhari revealed that the former president had, on several occasions, asked her to deliver the heartfelt message to Nigerians should he die before her.

“Since he left office, the thing he would often tell me whenever we talked was that if he passed away before me, I should convey his message to Nigerians to forgive him for any mistakes he made during his tenure as a human being prone to errors,” she said.

Aisha, visibly emotional, added, “Therefore, for the sake of Allah, I beg everyone to forgive him before he is taken to his final resting place.”

Ex-President Buhari’s burial, in line with Islamic rites, is expected to take place tomorrow at his hometown in Daura, Katsina State.
