The National Executive Council of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has ratified the candidacy of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for the September governorship race in Edo State.
The ruling party’s NEC said the process that produced Ize-Iyamu was credible and fair.
This was among the resolutions reached at the NEC meeting convened by the factional Acting National Chairman of the party, Victor Giadom on Thursday at the Presidential Villa.
The meeting had in attendance, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who had separately confirmed, on Wednesday, their presence.
Also in attendance were Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, the speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and 15 state governors.
The decision has laid to rest the fears expressed by many that the President’s endorsement of the Giadom-led NWC could mar the APC chance of fielding a candidate for the governorship election in the state.
MERIDIAN SPY reported earlier the APC NEC dissolved the National Working Committee of the party while also appointing Yobe State Governor, Mai Malla Buni as the Chairman, Caretaker and Convention Committee of the party.
The President at the meeting advised that all litigations in the party be withdrawn.
