Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recovered the bodies of nine Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists following a failed attack on troops in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The latest recovery was made on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during ongoing exploitation operations along the Kukawa–Jemmu–Alagarno axis.

According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops discovered five decomposing bodies of terrorists believed to have sustained fatal injuries during air strikes by Nigerian Air Force platforms supporting the operation.

The bodies were found during a search of the area after the terrorists had withdrawn following the failed attack on August 29.

The military said the discovery provided further evidence of the losses suffered by the terrorists during the engagement, adding that the insurgents appeared to have abandoned their dead and wounded colleagues while fleeing under pressure from ground troops and supporting air operations.

Troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a solar panel, a camouflage shuttle bag, a prayer mat, an empty ammunition link and a raincoat, among other items.

The recovered bodies were buried in situ, while troops continued exploitation of the general area before safely returning to base.

The latest discovery brings to nine the number of additional terrorist bodies recovered during exploitation operations following the failed attack on Kukawa, in addition to other equipment and personal effects previously recovered along the terrorists’ withdrawal route.

Operation HADIN KAI troops remain vigilant and determined to sustain pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, deny them freedom of action and prevent them from regrouping or threatening communities across the North-East.

The Joint Task Force commended the troops for their resilience and fighting spirit, assuring the public that operations would continue to consolidate recent gains and create a more secure environment for socio-economic activities in the region.
