Ayodele Fayose, a former Ekiti State governor, says Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi’s defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation.
Governor Umahi formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party on Tuesday.
He said injustice in the main opposition party was the reason for his defection. It however, elicited speculation that the Governor’s was not unconnected with securing an Igbo presidency in 2023.
But Fayose, in a series of tweets on Thursday, said Umahi’s defection “clearly has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation”, noting that he has long joined the APC before his formal declaration.
“Gov Umahi defected to APC long ago before this unjustifiable move, which clearly has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation,” the ex-Ekiti Governor tweeted.
“This is a reflection of the type of leadership our country parades.
“Though his action dampens hope for liberation, but I’m sure Nigerians will laugh last because sometimes, it will appear to have gotten so bad before it will begin to get better.”
