71 Terrorists killed, 58 Hostages Rescued in N/East — DHQ

The military high command said troops killed 71 terrorists, arrested 143 suspected criminals and rescued 58 hostages across the country in one week.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the bi-weekly press briefing in Abuja, on Thursday.

He said during the period under review, troops engaged in a series of operations, including cordon and search missions, offensive patrols, and clearance operations across various local government areas (LGAs) in Borno and Yobe States.

“Notable achievements include the surrender of BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families, the arrest of terrorists collaborators and logistics suppliers, and the neutralization of several high-profile terrorists.

“On April 8th and 9th, troops conducted cordon and search operations in Damboa, Biu, and Gujba LGAs, resulting in the arrest of four BH/ISWAP terrorists logistics suppliers and two collaborators”, Buba added.

He also disclosed that subsequent operations led to the discovery of an uncompleted building in Mubi LGA of Adamawa State, where three AK47 rifles, one locally made pistol, grenades, and fake currency were recovered.

The Director said the troops in separate operations from April 9th to 10th, troops engaged in clearance operations in Bama LGA, neutralizing 14 BH/ISWAP terrorists and rescuing 17 hostages.

He, however, noted that similar successes were achieved in subsequent operations, resulting in the neutralization of 16 terrorists and the recovery of weapons and ammunition.

Meanwhile, according to him, “Between April 11th and 15th, troops arrested 18 terrorists/criminals during patrols in various LGAs, recovering ammunition, vehicles, contraband, and cash.

The air component of Operation HADIN KAI also conducted airstrikes on ISWAP/JAS terrorist’s hideouts and logistics hubs, resulting in the neutralization of over 30 terrorists, including senior commanders, and the destruction of their logistics.

“Overall, Operation HADIN KAI achieved significant success, neutralizing 71 terrorists, arresting 143 suspects, and rescuing 58 hostages. A substantial amount of weapons, ammunition, and other contraband were recovered, demonstrating the continued commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to combatting terrorism in the region”, he noted.
