The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has described the party’s presidential candidate, Donald Duke, as better than other contenders ahead of the 2027 general election.
Baba-Ahmed stated this during an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, while discussing the party’s participation in ongoing opposition coalition talks.
“Candidate for candidate, we think we have the best. We’re very fortunate to have him. So, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke is better than all the candidates out there,” he said.
He, however, acknowledged that the quality of a presidential candidate alone would not guarantee electoral victory, stressing the importance of building a broader political coalition.
According to him, the PRP’s involvement in the coalition process is aimed at building an alliance with parties that share similar political objectives, rather than seeking to impose Duke as the consensus candidate.
Baba-Ahmed said the party would respect the constitutional and democratic processes that would determine the eventual candidate of any opposition coalition.
He added that the 2027 election would be critical to Nigeria’s political and developmental direction, urging opposition parties to focus on building a credible platform capable of addressing the country’s challenges.
