President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with families who lost loved ones, farmlands, means of livelihood and property in the ravaging floods in communities in Jigawa State.

Areas affected by the flood which resulted from a heavy downpour last Saturday in the state include Buji, Taura, Jahun, Babura, Ringim, Dutse, Birnin Kudu, Miga, Kafin-Hausa, Auyo, Gwaram, Malam-Madori, Birniwa and Kaugama Local Government Areas.

Death toll from the flood on Wednesday rose to 18, according to Channels TV.

Mr Sani Yusuf, the Executive Secretary of the state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said, in a phone interview, the government is providing emergency aid to those affected.

However, in a statement by Garba Shehu, Media Aide to the President, on Friday, Buhari assured families affected by the flood of timely support from the Federal Government.

According to Shehu, President Buhari also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant government agencies to urgently assess the situation in the affected areas with a view to providing the needed humanitarian supplies.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has assured families impacted by flooding in several communities in Jigawa State of timely support from the Federal Government,” the statement reads.

“Commiserating with families who lost loved ones, farmlands, means of livelihood & property in the ravaging floods in the State, the President directs the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant government agencies to urgently assess the situation in the affected areas with a view to providing the needed humanitarian supplies.
