Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, has said Boko Haram terrorists activities have been cornered to only Borno State in the entire North East.

Buratai stated this on Monday when he, alongside other security chiefs of the nation, met with the President, Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the President’s media aide, Garba Shehu, the Army Chief said the troops are sharing intelligence to rout the insurgents out of Borno.

“There are no Boko Haram terrorists in neighbouring states. They have been pushed out, and now cornered in Borno State,” Shehu quoted Buratai to have told the President.

“We are coordinating with civil and traditional authorities, mobilising and reinforcing and all we need is patience. We will not relent.”

President Buhari who also hosted the five governors of the North East states, assured that his administration has not ceased to think about how to tackle the insecurity in the country.

“Security will be restored to Borno State, the north-east and the nation at large,” he said.

“I assure you, the north-east governors, especially that of Borno, that we go to bed and wake up thinking about you, how to secure our country, that is the responsibility of every government.”

The President, however, acknowledged the impact of the coronavirus on resources needed to fight the insurgents.

“Our government is doing its best on the question of equipment and the military know(s),” he added.

“We have equipment coming from some countries. The acquisition of military wares and spares is not easy, especially if you are not the manufacturer.”
