Troops bust Arms Syndicate in Taraba Recover Rifle, Ammunitio

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have dismantled a gunrunning syndicate in Taraba State, arresting two suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.

According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating the activities of gunrunners at a settlement in Byepi Village along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

The troops, deployed from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, carried out a tactical raid that led to the arrest of two individuals — 55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa.

A follow-up search and interrogation resulted in the recovery of items like one AK-47 Rifle; one AK-47 Magazine; sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition; one Tecno mobile phone; one Bajaj motorcycle.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, the statement added.

Commending the troops, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating illegal arms proliferation in Taraba and across its Area of Responsibility.

He stressed that such operations are critical in the wider effort to improve security and deny criminal elements any safe haven.

General Uwa also appreciated residents of Taraba for their continued support and urged them to maintain cooperation by providing timely, actionable intelligence to security agencies.

The military assured the public that it remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks and sustaining peace in the region.
