President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner” and assured citizens that the gains of his administration’s reforms will soon be felt across the country.
Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the coronation of Oba (Senator) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, the President said his government’s policies were beginning to yield results because of the support and sacrifices of Nigerians.
“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said, adding that he was grateful for the patience of citizens over the past two years.
The President, who described the new Olubadan as a friend and political ally, praised him for his resilience in Nigeria’s democratic journey, recalling how he overcame an impeachment as governor of Oyo State.
“All the things we started together with great expectations, and the history we shared are coming to pass,” Tinubu said, wishing the monarch long life and prosperity.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, presented Oba Ladoja with the staff of office and certificate of installation. He said the coronation had resolved lingering disputes among royal families on succession to the throne.
“It is a great honour to celebrate the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. I also want to say all challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over, and put behind us,” Makinde said.
In his remarks, Oba Ladoja, a former governor and senator, described his ascension to the throne as the fulfilment of destiny. He pledged to uphold the responsibilities of the office and thanked President Tinubu for attending the ceremony.
“It is not by power, influence, connection, or money that we are here today,” the monarch said. “I appreciate God for taking me to the finishing line from the starting point as the Mogaji of the Arusa family in 1992 till date.”
The coronation was attended by traditional rulers, serving and former governors, and dignitaries from within and outside Oyo State.
