The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has assured Nigerians that oil production will increase in the next few months as security forces tackle oil theft and criminality in the South-South region.

Speaking during a briefing with newsmen, General Musa said, “We want to assure all Nigerians that the South-South region will be cleared of vandalism, oil theft, and other criminalities. This has been a long-standing issue, but President Bola Tinubu has mandated us to ensure the region is secured and criminal activities are curtailed.”

The meeting, attended by heads of security and intelligence agencies, to review ongoing operations and brainstorm strategies to increase oil production.

General Musa emphasized the need for collaboration, saying, “This time, we want to do things differently. We will harmonize all operations under a joint task force within the next three months, and we expect to see results.”

The Group Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, noted the President’s directive to provide adequate security in the Niger-Delta region to boost production. “We have seen progress, but we need substantial value in production,” Kyari said.
