Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy and Innocent Idibia, also called 2face reacted to the Federal Government’s revised 2020 budget proposal which made provision of N27.7 billion for the renovation of the National Assembly complex.

The Federal Government had, in its revised 2020 budget proposal to the National Assembly on Thursday, reduced the N37 billion budget for the renovation of the National Assembly complex to N27.7 billion, which represent a 25.1 per cent cut, but had a significant 42.5 per cent cut, by N44.4 billion to N25.5 billion, in the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, which is meant to cater for all the primary healthcare centres across the 774 local government areas in the country.

The Punch reports the Universal Basic Education (UBE) fund was also reduced significantly from N111.7bn to N51.1bn, by more than 54.2 per cent, according to documents obtained by Dataphyte, an open data organisation.

This triggered outrage on social media, especially among celebrities, criticising the revised 2020 budget proposal, which already scaled second reading both at the Senate and House of Representatives.

“27billy to renovate …… they know we can’t do anything,… it is called “see finish” …….. Naija government don see us finish aswear ….. #fuckedupeven with dis my tweet sef , some people go still come abuse,” Rudeboy had tweeted.

“we all are #fuckedup.”

African Queen crooner, 2face wrote: “If this Naija Budget is The real figures then I must say I’m ashamed ‘Extra’ of my government beyond how I have been ashamed before.

“How can u slash Health and Education and Agriculture spending. Wetin renovation wan do. Smh. I weak. Can’t even shout cos my voice dey fail me.”

Former Empire Mate Entertainment boss, Bankole Welington, popularly called Banky W also reacted and expressed his displeasure at the cost of the renovation of the National Assembly complex.

“At a time when most Nigerians are seriously struggling with being able to afford everything from FOOD to Healthcare, our National Assembly is going to spend N27 BILLION on “renovations”!” Banky W wrote.

The Punch reports the President, Muhammadu Buhari had, on Thursday, presented the 2020 Appropriation Act (amendment)  Bill to the National Assembly.

Buhari explained that the amendment became necessary in view of the sharp decline in crude oil prices and the cut in Nigeria’s crude oil production quota occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
